Big Bets Bobby’s Take on the Gervonta Davis VS Hugo Ruiz Fight!

Gervonta Davis VS Hugo Rui

The focus of this week’s Boxing Flutter is on the return of Gervonta Davis. The unbeaten super-featherweight has received a lot of attention since turning pro in 2013, but under the tutelage of Floyd Mayweather has struggled for regular fights, stunting his growth in an exciting division of big-money fights.

He last fought in March of last year in a third round dissection of Jesus Cuellar. Defending his WBA strap in style, the 24-year-old made short work of the Argentine in a much expected knock-over job in New York.

It’s not all been Davis’ fault. Sure, his attitude and actions outside the ring have given him the unfavorable tag of being the “next Adrien Broner”, but his talent inside the ropes cannot be reduced to pure hyperbole. This bout this coming weekend was originally scheduled to be a fight against Abner Mares: the hard-hitting multi-weight world champion from Mexico. It turns out, Mares has suffered a detached retina in camp, understandably ruling him out of a dance with Davis.

So, the replacement. Hugo Ruiz. Nicknamed “Cuatito”, the 32-year-old Mexican will be looking to steal the world title away from “Tank” with just three weeks notice given for the fight; a huge mountain to climb for a guy with four defeats already to his name.

“We have already seen him fight, I do not rule out an upset, we can emerge victorious”, stated Ruiz at the fight press conference. “I can give him a real surprise in the ring. I’m a boxer with a punch and I can achieve a surprise at any time.”

Strong words from the Mexican, however, it’s nothing we haven’t heard before. Davis had a 2018 to forget, and despite the disappointment at not getting the Mares fight over the line, “Tank” should have full focus coming into this fight in California.

Davis has been in this position before. A late pullout before his fight on the Mayweather-McGregor undercard landed him in with underrated Costa Rican Francisco Fonseca. Davis played around in this fight and earned few fans in Las Vegas with the Tico taking the moral victory. This arrogance won’t go down well in Carson, with Ruiz better suited to steal the win.

Gervonta Davis to beat Hugo Ruiz by stoppage @ 1/5
Gervonta Davis round group betting – rounds 1-6 @ 4/5

It’s hard to squeeze value out of this market. Davis is – rightfully so – a huge favourite to get the win, and barring an injury, the champion should cruise to a defence. Mayweather Promotions are too savvy to put Davis’ unbeaten record and title in jeopardy to a “nobody”.

Davis is likely to take his further frustrations out on Ruiz and make an example of the Mexican. There will be limited showmanship from Gervonta, with the price of 1/5 the only real market worth looking at for Davis to get the stoppage. “Tank” is a big puncher at super-featherweight and is muscular and big for the weight, Ruiz is known more in the lower weight classes having fought a majority of his career at super-bantamweight. At 130-pounds, Davis should get Ruiz out of there early.

Davis will need to step up in 2019 if we are to begin to take his career more seriously; Saturday night will put him back onto the map.

PSG Extend Coup de le Ligue Dominance in 2017-18

Paris St Germain 1 3

Paris St-Germain have been the dominant power in French football for a number of years, and their supremacy hasn’t just been confined to Ligue 1, which they had won in four out of the five previous years prior to the 2017-18 season. The Paris giants have also dominated the country’s two main Cup competitions: the Coupe de France, and the Coupe de le Ligue.

That stranglehold on French football silverware wasn’t loosened in the 2017-18 season as PSG completed a clean sweep of all the major honours in domestic football; their third in four seasons. And, with the final played in March, the Coup de le Ligue once again provided PSG with their first opportunity of the season to pick up another set of winners medals.

Having won the competition for the previous four consecutive seasons, it was no surprise that PSG went into the 2017-18 edition as overwhelming favourites, according to the implied probabilities on the Bigbetbookmakers.com site, a long way clear of second favourites Monaco, who were the only other team to be generally available at a single figure price with sportsbooks.

But unlike the 2016-17 tournament in which PSG were rarely troubled en route to the final, where they handed out a 4-1 drubbing to Monaco, the 2017-18 competition threw up a tougher path for the reigning champions. They faced away fixtures in the Fourth Round, Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals. Strasbourg were beaten 4-2 in the last eight, and there was a straightforward win over Ligue 1 newcomers Amiens in the quarter-finals, but they were given a fright in the Semi-Final.

Played in Rennes, the game saw PSG leading 3-0 at the hour mark and seemingly coasting towards the final. But on 85 minutes, Diafra Sakho pulled one back for Rennes and two minutes into injury time, Sanjin Prcic scored a second, to set up a thrilling finish. PSG had done enough, however, and they reached their fifth consecutive final, where they would once again take on Monaco.

Rennes had also been involved in the Coupe de le Ligue’s most dramatic game, at the quarter-final stage. Taking on Toulouse, who had already been involved in a six-goal thriller in the Third Round, Rennes opened the scoring through a Steeve Yago own goal, and Benjamin Bourigeaud got their second just before half time. But goals from Issiaga Sylla and Yaya Sanogo kept Toulouse in touch until, with the game heading for extra time, Adrien Hunou scored twice in six minutes to seal the win.

Astonishingly, Leonardo Jardim’s side had been the only team other than PSG to win a domestic trophy in the previous three seasons, and they reached the 2017-18 final having beaten Caen, Nice and Montpellier along the way, but once again they had to cede supremacy to PSG in the final. Uruguayan star Edinson Cavani opened the scoring after just 8 minutes at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux and Angel Di Maria added a second on 21 minutes. With Monaco running out of ideas late in the game, Cavani added a third from the penalty spot and the trophy belonged to PSG again.

Hobart Set the Pace in Wide Open Big Bash League

Big Bash League

The Australian domestic Twenty20 competition, the Big Bash League, proved so successful in its first seven years, that this year’s tournament was extended.

The 2018-19 edition gives all eight teams the chance to play all of their opponents home and away, with the result that the competition has been extended well into February. But all the indications have been that the newly enlarged Big Bash League has been just as popular as ever with the Australian public.

And a new-look tournament has featured a new contender for the title in Hobart Hurricanes. The men in purple have twice reached the final, in 2014, when they were beaten by Perth, and last year, when they fell short against Adelaide. But this time round there is a new purpose to the Hurricanes, and with two games to go before the play-offs, Hobart are leading the way, one of three teams who have already guaranteed their place in the knock-out stages.

Hobart were not regarded as strong contenders prior to the tournament, and the implied probabilities on the bigbetbookmakers.com site rated them as fourth favourites to win the Big Bash League for the first time, but they have defied the odds with a string of impressive performances. Eight victories from their first nine games gave them a commanding lead at the top of the table, and although they have slipped up a couple of times, they have clearly been the team of the tournament so far.

Top order batting is a clear strength for the Hurricanes, and their unheralded opening partnership between former Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and big hitting D’Arcy Short has dominated most bowling attacks this season, to the extent that Short and Wade occupy the top two spots in the batting charts. But they have also been powered by some wily and varied bowling, from the tournament’s second leading wicket taker James Faulkner and express pace man Joffra Archer.

The main challengers to the Hurricanes so far have been the Sydney Sixers and the Melbourne Renegades and both teams have also booked their play-off spots with a game to go. The Sixers have not been consistent, but they have benefitted from the most dangerous bowling attack in the competition, and pace bowler Sean Abbott, England international all-rounder Tom Curran and wily spinner Steve O’Keefe all feature among the tournament’s top five wicket takers.

But the Renegades have a bowling threat of their own in the Big Bash League’s top wicket-taker, Kane Richardson, who despite only appearing in 10 of the Renegades’ first 13 games, had taken 19 wickets thanks to his array of white ball variations. Their batting has occasionally let them down, but the Renegades have been kept alive by contributions from an array of batsmen, and their impressive team spirit will make them hard to beat in the play-offs.

One team we definitely won’t be seeing in the knock-out stages are the pre-tournament favourites Perth Scorchers. The three-time winners and five-time finalists were widely tipped to dominate again this time round, but they lost five of their first six and despite showing some improved form in January, they had left themselves too much work to do to make the top four.

Premier League of Darts 2019 Preview

Michael van Gerwen e1549326864931

Premier League of Darts 2019
Weekly from Thursday, February 7th
Sky Sports

The new Premier League of Darts season will swing into action on February 7th and there is little surprise about who is the frontrunner for the title. That will be the reigning champion Michael van Gerwen who is the 1/2 odds on market leader with the top bookmakers to get the job done. Considering that he has won the last three editions of the tournament then it’s likely that he is going to have plenty of backing behind him again.

Adding weight to the favouritism of MVG for 2019 has been the withdrawal from this season’s competition by the man regarded as his biggest challenger, Gary Anderson.

Van Gerwen has won four of the last six editions of the Premier League of Darts and has been to each of those six finals. So, of course, he has form. He has a proven track record and he is the second-most successful player in the history of the tournament. Only the retired Phil Taylor has won it more times (6) than Van Gerwen has. But Taylor’s record is likely to tumble sooner rather than later you would feel.

With wins at the World Championship and the Masters already this year for MVG, can The Field step up and beat him?

Who’s in?

Along with Van Gerwen, there are some familiar faces lining up in the Premier League of Darts 2019. Joining the reigning champion will be Rob Cross, Peter Wright, Raymond van Barneveld, Michael Smith, Gerwyn Price, Mensur Suljovic, James Wade and Daryl Gurney. Each of those have experienced the Premier League before.

The season will be spread across nine weeks of action in the first phase, coming from a different location each week. At the end of the those nine weeks, only the top eight move to the next phase. Those remaining eight all play another seven matches and the top four in the table at the end of all that moves through to the Final night. That big night consists of two semi-finals and the Final itself.

Big (strange) change

The 2019 Premier League of Darts, which again will have its end of season Finals night at The O2 Arena in London, has had a bizarre shake-up. Two-time Premier League of Darts winner Gary Anderson has withdrawn ahead of the tournament because of injury. It’s unusual to have a player pull out of a darts tournament, but that’s not the strange thing. What is bizarre is that organisers (the PDC) have replaced the Scotsman with nine different players.

Yes, nine. A different player, which includes BDO World Champion Glen Durrant, will be making an appearance in each of the nine weeks over the first phase of the regular season. That, of course, raises massive questions about an uneven playing field. A regular Premier League of Darts player going up against Durrant, for example, may find themselves having a tougher match than someone who goes up against one of the others.

For example on the opening week in Newcastle, invite Chris Dobey will be taking on Mensur Suljovic. Then on week two in Glasgow, it will be Glen Durrant going up against Daryl Gurney. Who gets the easier game, Suljovic or Gurney? So it’s strange but there is a caveat. There will be no points earned by any of the invited replacement players in terms of the league standings if they win or draw. However, the Premier League of Darts player will collect points for a win (or draw) from their game against an invited player.

Who can upset MVG?

The Premier League of Darts is a fascinating and strange beast. Players don’t have the chance to build up big momentum like they would in a week-long tournament. The competition rewards long-term consistency over four months of action. Gary Anderson is the only other active player besides Van Gerwen who has won the Premier League on more than one occasion. So players with form become thin on the ground when you start looking for a challenger to MVG. James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld are the only others to have won the title, Wade in 2009 and Barney in 2014.

But last season we saw two of the big new names in the sport put together some pretty strong campaigns. 2018 World Champion Rob Cross reached the semi-finals on his Premier League debut, while English compatriot Michael Smith went one better and faced up against Van Gerwen in the final itself. The outcome didn’t go the way of Smith but that was an impressive campaign on just his second appearance in the Premier League. Smith finished rock bottom in 2016 on his debut. Smith and  Cross are 8/1 and 10/1 outright winner options for the 2019 edition of the Premier League of Darts.

Victory in Variety

ut here is the beauty of the Premier League of Darts when it comes to betting. It’s not particularly about the bigger picture. It’s about one big night of darts each week.  It’s about eying up different options like “To Reach Semi-Final” or “To Finish Bottom”.

Like the tournament itself, you don’t have to be all one-dimensional about it.

It’s about who hasn’t been travelling well, or who has turned up with a couple of big performances in recent weeks? The time between the weekly matches allows plenty of time for the studying of statistics in things like head to head, which I personally think is a huge boon.

Each week it is like a mini-tournament just being played and that leads to some great darts betting opportunities. The tournament format really allows you to look a long way beyond just the outright winner.

MVG playing ‘The Field’

So heading into the Premier League of Darts 2019, there’s a price of 7/5 with the top bookmakers on one of the eight contenders in the “The Field” to beat Van Gerwen to the title. That is because Van Gerwen is just a beast at the Oche and because his biggest threat of Anderson isn’t there this year.

But that in itself adds a great dimension to the whole action too. There is that kick of trying to predict if and when MVG might lose. He did lose four matches through the two league phases last year, and that was a pretty average return in terms of the number of defeats across the top five finishers. So he was rattled, (particularly in phase 2) last season.

Still, he came out on top in the end, but in sport, some of the greatest moments in history have been when an underdog prevails. In this case “The Field” is the underdog. Can they stop Mighty Mike?

BOBBY’S BEST WEEKEND BETTING EVENTS – 9TH-10TH FEBRUARY

DyjOB6sVAAUgSz9

Soccer – Premier League – Manchester City vs Chelsea

The Premier League throws up another fascinating contest this weekend as Manchester City host Chelsea at the Etihad. City fans will have been delighted to see Liverpool drop points on Monday night in East London and this a chance to keep the pressure on the Reds.

It’s not been an easy period for Pep’s men with some tricky fixtures but they saw off Arsenal and they will be fancied to do the same against an inconsistent Blues.

The betting markets are heavily favouring the hosts but I wouldn’t be completely writing off the visitors as this is the kind of game they relish. They were much better against Huddersfield at the weekend and Gonzalo Higuain is off the mark in the Premier League. The striker could cause City some problems here.

I think some of the matches between top six sides have potentially been overhyped by Sky Sports this season but I’m genuinely looking forward to this one and I can’t wait to see how the two managers match-up to one another.

Chelsea beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge back in December and they will be keen to do the double over the high-flyers but this could be very close indeed.

Another fascinating fixture awaits and I can’t wait to see how the betting markets chance between now and kick-off.

This Premier League game will be shown on Sky Sports this weekend alonside Spurs vs Leicester

Rubgy Union – Six Nations – Scotland vs Ireland

Ireland’s title defence got off to the worst possible start when they were beaten by a physical England side last weekend and Joe Schmidt’s side must find a way of bouncing back here. They face a favourable fixture against Scotland and will be expected to pick up their first points of the 2019 Six Nations.

Jamie Ritchie believes that the Scots can match the physicality of England and they will certainly be full of confidence following their victory over France. The Flanker believes his side will need to be on top of their game for 80 minutes. Gregor Townsend’s men can certainly take some lessons from Eddie Jones’ side and they must put Ireland under pressure from the off.

This is going to be a really interesting battle and I’m intrigued to see how Ireland respond to that setback. Will Joe Schmidt be tempted to make changes to the side or will he keep the faith with the side who were imperious during 2018?

Scotland are likely to be largely unchanged and they could keep the score down. It might be a low-scoring match-up and the Scots will be determined to avoid going behind early on as they won’t want to chase the game.

It’s tough to call and tactics will be key here. There are three fascinating match-ups this weekend but this is the one that I’ll be keeping my eye on.

The BBC will have full coverage of Six Nations this weekend and will be showing this game live.

Soccer – La Liga – Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid

The Madrid derby is always a fiercely contested 90 minutes and there is even more at stake this weekend as just two points separate these rivals in the La Liga standings. Atletico slipped up last weekend to Quique Setien’s Real Betis and they will be keen to bounce back. They are always much stronger at the Wanda Metropolitana and they are yet to be defeated here this season.

They also lost just once here last season and managed to hold Real Madrid to a goalless draw. It should be more entertaining this time around.

Real Madrid have started to put together a decent sequence of results and they are searching for their fifth consecutive win here. They’ve won five times on the road this season and they would go above their rivals if they could continue their winning streak.

Both sides are unlikely to dethrone Barcelona anytime soon but there’s more than pride at stake here and the intensity of this game is a huge reason to tune into the action from the Spanish capital.

It is also a fascinating betting proposition because you’d ordinarily favour Atletico at home but Real Madrid have suddenly got going and they are playing with togetherness and spirit once again. Each of the last three meetings between these teams have ended all-square and if it is to be a draw, let’s hope it’s a high-scoring one.

I’m looking forward to another great sporting weekend and this fixture is one of the standout betting events of the week.

UK Soccer fans can enjoy all of this weekend’s La Liga action on Eleven Sports.

Boxing – WBC World Super-Bantam Weight  – Rey Vargas vs Franklin Manzanilla

This should be a very entertaining fight on Saturday night/Sunday morning between Rey Vargas and Franklin Manzanilla. Vargas is set to start as overwhelming favourite for this fight but he could have a lot on his plate against his lively opponent. He is defending his title after all and will be expected to retain it here.

Until his victory last year against Julio Ceja, Manzanilla wouldn’t have been given a hope of causing an upset here but the nature of that victory means that he could cause Vargas some problems here. The Mexican has also had his fair share of injuries in recent years and after a number of cancelled bouts, he’ll be keen to make an impression here. He described Manzanilla as a ‘dangerous opponents’ and he knows that he can’t afford to be complacent here.

The 12-round fight should be a hugely entertaining affair and with both boxers having a great record with recent knock-outs, it might not last too long. The whole card makes for an intriguing evening and it’s the unknown package of Manzanilla which helps make this fight the best betting heat of the day.

I’m looking to another fascinating Saturday night of boxing and I can’t wait to see how this one plays out.

Boxing fans can watch the whole card on DAZN and enjoy every single bout on the card.

Betting Options for Week 1 of Premier League Darts

Michael.van .Gerwen 1 1

It’s the long awaited return of the Premier League this Thursday, as the Utilita Arena in Newcastle hosts the opening round of fixtures between the best throwers in the sport.

Off the back of winning the World Championship for the third time on New Years’ Day, Michael van Gerwen scooped a fifth consecutive Masters crown last Sunday as the Dutchman waltzed past James Wade in the final in Milton Keynes.

This form is imperative for ‘Mighty Mike’ as he looks to stroll towards his fifth Premier League crown, which would take him one shy of Phil Taylor’s record total.

The big news coming into the tournament is the withdrawal of Gary Anderson. The two-time World Champion and two-time Premier League champion had to pull out on Monday due to a back injury that has plagued his career over the last few years. Hopefully, sitting out this tournament will allow a run of form towards the back of the season in preparation for the Matchplay in the summer.

His replacement has caused controversy across the darts world. Nine ‘Contenders” will fill in each week for the Scot, with a variety of players from across the PDC being invited to play in front of their home fans. The remaining nine players in the Premier League will still be able to win points against them, but the ‘Contenders’ won’t be able to accumulate any themselves.

So, let’s look at the opening round of fixtures, with the best value bets from BetVictor accompanying them:

James Wade vs Raymond van Barneveld

Wade has turned his form around considerably over the past six months, as The Machine looks to run deep into the Premier League format. His finishing is good enough to win scrappy matches over such a short format. Barney’s inclusion in the original ten players was hotly contested considering his form, which suggests the Dutchman may struggle with the pressure.

James Wade to win @ 6/5
Raymond van Barneveld most 180s @ 5/6

Gerwyn Price vs Daryl Gurney

This one is a true 50/50. Price and Gurney have both done well in previous years to consolidate their positioning in the Premier League, but both will target two points off each other. Price’s form has dipped since his Grand Slam win and is no doubt going to play the villain of the night in front of the Newcastle crowd. Gurney’s heavy scoring should see him over the line.

Daryl Gurney 7-5 Gerwyn Price @ 5/1

Chris Dobey vs Mensur Suljovic

Dobey is the first of the ‘Contenders’ to take part in this years Premier League, with the incentive of Dobey in question coming into Newcastle. Suljovic struggled last season, so will be looking to right the wrongs of a campaign that saw him win just two matches. Dobey can play on his day and will probably win the 180 contest; this being said, Suljovic should hustle to the victory.

Mensur Suljovic to win @ 4/6

Michael van Gerwen vs Michael Smith

In a repeat of the World Championship final and the previous Premier League final, Michael takes on Michael in a 180-slugfest. MVG keeps getting the better of the Bully Boy on the big stage, however, Smith’s game has come on leaps and bounds in the past 12 months. It still looks too soon for Smith to get the win, especially after the Dutchman scooped his fifth back-to-back Masters crown last Sunday. Avoid the 180s market, with both scoring for fun.

Michael van Gerwen to win @ 4/9
170 checkout – Yes @ 7/1

Peter Wright vs Rob Cross

This one looks a strong candidate to be the first draw of this year’s Premier League. Both are world beaters on their day, but are struggling a little for consistency under the TV lights. Wright reached the Masters’ semi-final at the weekend and averaged over 95 in two of his matches; Cross stumbled at the first hurdle. This one should swing backwards and forwards.

Peter Wright 6-6 Rob Cross @ 10/3

Big Betting Sporting Events: Super League Grand Final

Dxqvz68XcAAS6pN

The Super League is the name given to the top flight of professional Rugby League in the UK. It contains twelve teams with the majority of them situated in Northern England. It also contains one side from France. The league typically takes place between February and September and concludes with the Super League Grand Final.

Each Super League team will play 11 times at home during the regular campaign and they will also contest 11 matches on the road. On top of this, there are an additional six ‘loop’ fixtures which will consist of three home/three away games. This new structure has only just been implemented and was introduced at the beginning of the 2019 season.

Magic Weekend adds an additional fixture to the calendar with every side playing at the same stadium across one weekend. This will take place at a randomly selected stadia and past events have been held in Cardiff, Newcastle and Manchester.

As of the 2019 season, one team will be relegated from the Super League with the top five teams entering the play-off series. This will whittle down the field and leave just two sides to complete in the Super League Grand Final.

The Super League Trophy is up for grabs and a place in the World Club Challenge awaits for the winner of the match. The man-of-the-match will be awarded the Harry Sunderland Trophy.

A number of memorable matches have taken place over the last few years in the Super League Grand Final and it is always a hugely competitive and entertaining 80 minutes of Rugby League. Only four sides have ever won this prestigious honour with Leeds Rhinos, Bradford Bulls, St.Helens and the Wigan Warriors sharing the spoils between them. Many other sides have reached the final but haven’t been able to get over the line.

Teams who are victorious in the Super League Grand Final and the Challenge Cup Final are described as “doing the double”. Wigan Warriors have managed it on seven occasions with Leeds the last side to achieve this feat in 2015.

The game itself attracts over 60,000 spectators and it is televised by both the BBC and Sky Sports.

When and Where

The game is always played at Old Trafford in Manchester and it is competed at the end of the Super League season. It is the final game of the campaign and is typically played at the end of September.

Why is the Super League Grand Final So Popular?

The Super League is particularly popular in the North of England although the sport attracts fans from all over Europe. Those who don’t follow the sport closely will often tune in for the Super League Grand Final as it is a very special occasion.

Many Super League enthusiasts have closely followed the action throughout the season and watched a number of matches during the regular campaign and this is the last competitive action until February.

Ardent and passionate Rugby League fans support their local clubs and are rightfully proud of their team’s achievements. They relish the chance to see their team in the Super League Grand Final.

What Betting Opportunities are Available?

During the regular season, there are numerous betting opportunities available on each and every game. There are also numerous pre-season wagering opportunities such as match bets (Team A to finish above Team B) and of course, the possibility of predicting which side will win the Super League Grand Final.

There are numerous enhanced odds and special promotions relating to the Super League Grand Final each year. Bookmakers regularly offer additional markets ahead of this showpiece event.

Popular Betting Markets

Betting Markets Leading Up to the New Season

Grand Final Winner – A very simple market which asks punters to predict which side will be victorious in the Super League Grand Final. The holders are usually priced up as the favourites although sides who have been deemed to have conducted savvy transfer business will often be positioned towards the top of the market.

To Reach the Grand Final – This is a case of predicting which side will reach the Grand Final. Your chosen side don’t need to win the match in order to receive a pay-out.

Regular Season Winner – At the end of the regular fixtures, the top five will progress to the play-offs and it is possible to predict which side will finish top of the table after each side have played their 29 fixtures. This is not neccessarily the same side who goes on to clinch the Grand Final.

To Finish Bottom – Not related to the Grand Final but punters can opt to choose which side will be finish bottom of the overall standings and be relegated to the second tier.

Man of Steel – This is awarded to the player of the season and is usually given to a competitor who featured in the Super League Grand Final. Punters can predict which player will pick up this award at the beginning of the campaign.

Super League Grand Final Betting Markets

Draw No Bet – This is a safer way of playing the outright match market. If you back a side on the Draw No Bet (or DNB) market, you will receive your money back if the game ends all-square. This is often used to back perceived underdogs in the contest.

To Go Into Overtime? – Will the match be decided in regulation time or will it require additional minutes?

Handicap Markets – With prices on the outright markets often quite cramped, the handicap markets are usually a popular way of betting in any Super League game. There are usually ample handicap options in the Grand Final. These offer the favourite a handicap (e.g – 6.5 points) and they must overcome this margin in order to pay-out. Underdogs are usually offered a head-start (e.g +6.5 points) and if they stay within seven points of their opponents, this will prove to be a successful bet.

Anytime Tryscorer/First Tryscorer – This is a case of predicting which players will manage to score a try in the Super League Grand Final. Anytime Tryscorer markets will have shorter odds but it’s a more flexible market which allows points to be scored at any time during the match. Other possibilities include: Last Tryscorer and To Score 2 or More Tries.

Total Points Under/Over – Another fairly self-explanatory market which doesn’t require punters to choose which side will win the match. Bettors must decide whether the game will be a high-scoring or low-scoring 80 minutes.

Bobby’s Big Betting Tips for the Super League Grand Final

Recent Form – Momentum is key in the majority of sports but sides who enter the Super League Grand Final off the back of a decent run of form tend to prevail.

Experience is Vital – Sides who have played in this event previously are always likely to have the edge. The occasion can be overwhelming for younger and inexperienced sides and with a vocerifous crowd in place, it is an entirely different proposition to those matches which take place during the regular season. Knowing how to cope with the expectation and pressure that comes with competing in a Grand Final could make all the difference.

Injuries Can be Hugely Disruptive – Injuries happen in every sport but the fast-paced nature of the sport can result in ailments and patched up squads on a regular basis. Always check team news before placing a bet as a missing squad member or two can seriously disrupt momentum and flow.

Is it the end of an era? – There are always additional narratives surrounding the Super League Grand Final with players and coaches often making their last appearances for clubs in this game. If it is a coaches final match in charge, the players could be extra motivated and will do everything in their power to win him some silverware. Also, if a player is taking to the pitch for the final time, his team-mates will be keen to end on a high. These stories and narratives can sometimes make a huge difference in the outcome.

Head to Head – This is not neccessarily a straightforward head-to-head analysis but it’s important to establish whether there is any bad blood between the two teams before placing a bet. I also always look to see if they have competed against one another in the Grand Final previously and if one of the two sides were harshly treated by the officials or felt hard done by, it is sometimes worth backing them to get their revenge.

Where Can I Watch the Super League Grand Final in the UK?

Both the BBC and Sky Sports broadcast the Super League Grand Final. The BBC show highlights from all of the games each week during the regular season whilst Sky Sports tend to show a number of Thursday and Friday night games live.
