Big Bets Bobby’s Take on the Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz Vs Christian Hammer Fight!

Luis.Ortiz Chris.Hammer 1

It’s the return to the ring of one of boxing’s biggest enigmas this weekend. Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz has raised eyebrows in the sport for a number of years.

Questions over his age, his talent, his ceiling in the heavyweight division and past doping charges have led many fighters to keep the dangerous, slick southpaw at arms reach; Ortiz’s war with WBC champion Deontay Wilder last year catapulted him back into the limelight, and back in most people’s top five heavyweights. The Cuban lost that night in New York, but had Wilder hurt on more than one occasion.

This weekend he returns to the Barclays Center on the undercard of Castano vs. Lara, where Romanian Christian Hammer will look to add just a second defeat to Ortiz’s record. Hammer’s 24-5 record suggests that another step-up in quality will add a sixth defeat to the European’s CV, having lost to Tyson Fury and Alexander Povetkin in the past four years.

Hammer’s recapture of the WBO European heavyweight title in his last outing in December is testament to his sticking power in this division; previous wins against Erkan Teper, Kevin Johnson and David Price would be eclipsed by a win in the Big Apple on Saturday.

Luis Ortiz to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification @ 1/3 (BetFred)
Luis Ortiz to win in Round 6 @ 8/1 (BetFred)

Let’s get it right: Luis Ortiz is looking past Christian Hammer. The Cuban has made no apologies in his quest for a world title, and with politics getting in the way of the Joshua-Wilder-Fury triangle, the southpaw can see a road towards a possible mega-fight against one of these three.

Speaking to the media this week, Ortiz displayed confidence at getting the stoppage win in New York:

I have a very strong and durable opponent. I know he can go 12-rounds with a top fighter like Alexander Povetkin, so we’re not taking any chances. I’m not Povetkin, though, so he’s not going the distance with me.

I want to be world champion. I am going to go in there on Saturday and put on a performance that gets me another shot at a title. I’m preparing to be explosive on Saturday night

Ortiz has recorded 26 KOs in his 30 wins as a professional. His slick movement allows for chances in attack that slower heavyweights are unable to counter. Malik Scott is the only fighter that has gone twelve rounds with Ortiz, and despite Saturday’s contest scheduled for just 10 rounds, the Romanian will do well to hear the final bell. Ortiz is looking to make a statement amongst the heavys: struggling to get Hammer out of there in style will damage his reputation as a key player.

The Players Championship 2019 Snooker Preview

snooker 1368425 1280 e1547051253415

The Players Championship, which will be the 16th ranking event of the snooker season, will swing into action on March 4th. It is a week-long event which will see the final contested on March 10th at the Preston Guild Hall.

This is a small event with just the top sixteen on the Order of Merit taking their places. Ronnie O’Sullivan makes the trip back to Lancashire as the defending champion.

Gearing up for bigger things

We are at that point of the season now where the players will have an eye on bigger things. Namely the World Championship which will start in mid-April. It is a good time now for players to start gathering momentum towards that big prize. There are a handful of big events coming up between now and then, such as the Tour Championship and the China Open, so the ante is being upped.

O’Sullivan searches for form

The last time that Ronnie O’Sullivan landed a title this season was at the UK Championship. That was in early December. At that point, he looked as if he was going to start dominating everything again. But strangely enough, the very reverse of that happened. He lost the Final of the Masters against Judd Trump, crashed out of the World Grand Prix in the first round and bombed the Welsh Open in the third round.

The interesting thing about O’Sullivan is that he is still the one to beat in events. When he’s on his game, that’s a tough thing for anyone to do. He is the reigning Players Championship title holder and he has shown already this season that he can defend a title. Title defences in snooker are no easy thing to pull off. But he did it at the UK Championship earlier this season. That was the first time that he had defended a title successfully since the 2017 Masters. It doesn’t seem to matter what kind of form he is in, he still turns up at tournaments as the favourite. O’Sullivan is at 12/5 odds with top bookmakers.

The trending Trump

It is Judd Trump who is the hot ticket at the moment though. After his win at the Northern Ireland Open, he then had that massive breakthrough at the Masters. Trump earned his first Masters title in taking out O’Sullivan 10-4 in a brilliant fashion. Trump then powered his way to the World Grand Prix title in Cheltenham.

Trump goes as the 7/4 second favourite with leading bookmakers at the Players Championship. He is a man with some form at the Players Championship as well. Trump won the 2017 Players Championship title and he has been to the semi-final in three of the last five editions on top of that. He is in the opposite half of the draw to O’Sullivan for the 2019 edition.

Other Players in contention

Mark Allen is the top seed for the event and he has been to three finals in his last six appearances in ranking events. He won at the International Championship and the Scottish Open, while he was runner up to the UK Championship. His form did dip since his Scottish Open success in December. He could be a quiet threat in the draw because of what he has done this season. He was the 2016 winner of the Players as well.

Neil Robertson has come good on a couple of occasions recently. He showed a lot of fight at the Masters in finishing as a losing semi-finalist. The Australian claimed the Welsh Open title which was his second ranking event of the season. He finished as the losing finalist at the Players Championship in 2012 and 2013 so it has been a tournament which has just been out of his reach.

Then there is Mark Selby’s who is still searching for a big upturn in form. He gets a big scrap against John Higgins in the first round. The winner of that could face Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarterfinals. With Mark Allen in that top half of the draw as well there are some great-looking matches to look forward to up there.

What to look forward to

Top of the bill really is the potential of a title defence from Ronnie O’Sullivan. It’s hard to gauge sometimes if he is really interested because of his demeanour. But then he cues-up and you are blown away by what he can produce. However, his heavy loss in the final of the Masters to Trump seemed to knock a bit of wind out of him. But then again if there is one player in the world who can brush it off, then it is ‘The Rocket’.

The other big thing to look out for is the form of Trump. He has had some tremendous confidence coursing through him recently. It finally seems as if he is adding a bit of consistency to his brilliantly raw attacking power. He’s landed in the easier half of the draw too and that could aid his challenge of being the last man standing on March 10th. Will we see potential O’Sullivan v Trump final come to life?

Best Bets of the Day – Friday March 1st 2019

Leeds e1551392810797

Leeds v West Brom
Championship – 7.45 pm
Sky Sports

This is a game of huge importance in the Championship promotion race from Elland Road. Leeds are starting the game in third place in the league, just the two points off the leaders Norwich. So automatic promotion is still well within their grasp. In this Friday night fixture, they are taking on West Brom who are one place beneath them. Because the Baggies are four points adrift of Leeds, then a home win for the Whites would give them a fantastic cushion inside the top three.

So that is what Leeds will be striving for. They had an upset last time out though as they suffered a defeat against the struggling QPR away from home. That was a big blow because a win there would have left them sitting top of the pile. Anyway, they have to deal with what is in front of them. Leeds have won three of their last four games at Elland Road, part of a good overall W11 D3 L3 home record this season there in the Championship. They have been solid in defence with just 15 goals conceded in those 17 games.

Leeds are favourites but at a general odds-against price of 5/4 with leading bookmakers. West Brom needs to show up and land a result to keep themselves in the hunt for automatic promotion. They too suffered a setback in their last game as they lost a top-four clash against Sheffield United at home. But they have got away form going, do West Brom. They are on a four-match winning streak away from the Hawthorns and have won eight of their last nine on their travels. They are 12/5 underdogs for this Friday night clash, but that away form fully suggests that they are going to give as good as they get. This is the real highlight of the Friday best bets of the day preview. It really could swing either way.

Augsburg v Borussia Dortmund
Bundesliga – 7.30 pm
BT Sport

Well then, momentum has so much to do with how seasons can turn out. Borussia Dortmund just got a bit of wind back last time out with a victory over Bayer Leverkusen. It was a tight 3-2 success as well. But regardless of how the game was won, it snapped a three-match sequence of drawn games that they were on in the top flight. Last weekend’s result leaves them as they were, three points ahead of Bayern Munich in the title challenge. They have to head out on the road on Friday night to try and get some bigger winning momentum going and they are 4/6 odds-on to win outright.

Augsburg are going through a tough grind at the moment. They have lost six of their last seven Bundesliga games, the only bright moment in that run being a home win over Mainz. This is a side who have only won twice at home this season. They have lost three of their last four on home turf. But what makes this a great-looking game is that they threw down a great challenge to Bayern Munich in their last home fixture. Twice they took the lead in that game but still ended up losing 3-2. But it hinted that they could give BVB a tricky game on Friday and the over/under market could be very interesting.

Leeds v Wakefield
Super League Rugby – 7.45 pm
Sky Sports

Leeds Rhinos once again are having a tough season with just the one win in and three defeats on the board so far. It hasn’t been the great recovery that they will have wanted to throw down this season. Two years ago they were Super League champions, now they are fighting to regain some status. But this will be their season opener at Headingley after having played their first four games of the new season on the road because of construction.

So that is something that should give them a lift. There hasn’t been much consistency from their performances this season at all, having lost against Warrington, St Helens and Wigan. To be fair that was a really tough opening run of fixtures. Wakefield though haven’t been setting the league alight either with a W1 D2 record from just three played. Their lone success came against the Catalans Dragons, arguably their best performance of the season. Wakefield Trinity will show up at Headingley as big underdogs with Leeds holding 4/9 favouritism in the match outright. But it’s not a bad time to be catching the Rhinos at the moment as they have been far from their best.

This is just the tip of the sports betting weekend, take at look at Big Bobby’s Big Weekend Bets for more.

Week 4 Betting Options for the Premier League Darts

Gerwyn Price

It’s the fourth week of this year’s Premier League Darts, with Exeter’s Westpoint Arena hosting an unmissable night of action from the best of the PDC.

Once again, Michael van Gerwen stole the headlines last week with a comfortable 7-2 win over world number two Rob Cross. Cross narrowly avoided the 7-0 sweep in Dublin, but will take little comfort from nailing just two doubles against the world champion.

Draws between Price/Wade and Suljovic/Barney emphasised the value in backing a draw in the Premier League with such evenly contested matches, whereas Gurney upset the apple-cart in beating one of the favourites for the title – Michael Smith.

Peter Wright got his first win of the campaign in a nervy win over ‘Contender’ Steve Lennon in front of a partisan Dublin crowd, with Snakebite averaging a healthy 97 in the process.

It’s getting nervy for some of the under-performers in the league. Let’s look at the matchups from week 4 in Exeter this Thursday:

Luke Humphries vs Gerwyn Price

Humphries can rely on the strong backing of the Exeter faithful on Thursday night, however, ‘Gezzy’ Price is playing the darts of his life after winning back-to-back Players Championship tournaments at the weekend. He’ll look to build on this momentum this Thursday against Humphries who may start strong, but will struggle to get over the line. Price is in the groove – 8/11 is fantastic value.

Gerwyn Price to win @ 8/11 (BetVictor)

Daryl Gurney vs Rob Cross

Cross undid a lot of his good work in the Premier League through getting bullied by MVG last week. Gurney will come to win and may involve Voltage in a slugfest of ton+ hitting. Both have struggled to notch up maximums when it matters, showing the unders market as an attractive prospect. Cross has it in him to get the victory, but it may be hard fought for.

Under 6.5 180s @ 4/5 (BetVictor)

Mensur Suljovic vs Peter Wright

For all of Suljovic’s quirks, Gentle never quite looks cut out for life in the Premier League. He’s still without a win to his name in the 2019 tournament despite averaging 99; his lack of a three-figure checkout in three matches underlines his struggles. Wright is a fantastic matchplayer and is capable of winning when playing under par. Five of these two’s six matches so far have gone the distance. That’s where the value lies.

Over 11.5 legs @ 11/10 (BetVictor)

Michael van Gerwen vs James Wade

MVG has a dominant record over The Machine in recent years, and with a healthy lead developing already at the summit of the Premier League table, it’s hard to see a stutter from the Dutchman in Exeter. Wade is throwing consistently, but doesn’t possess the magic to de-rail Mighty Mike. Van Gerwen can win this one on his own terms.

MVG 7-4 James Wade @ 9/2 (BetVictor)

Michael Smith vs Raymond van Barneveld

Both are desperate for their first Premier League win of the campaign. Smith is considered one of the favourites for this title, but needs to get moving after a drab start; Bully Boy currently sits bottom of the pile after two losses and a draw. Barney is relying on the crowd each week to give him that extra 10%. It has worked to a degree, but Smith has the tools to put him to the sword once his rhythm has been found. It’s about time we saw the Smith of old. Back the 180s to flow in a win for Bully Boy.

Over 6.5 180s @ 1/1 (BetVictor)

Big Betting Sporting Events: Tour de France

D0Lrwv XQAUoj r

The Tour de France is an annual cycle race which takes place throughout the summer months. It is contested over multiple stages, with each of these sections offering various challenges along the way. As the name would suggest, it is predominantly contested in France, but it is occasionally staged in other countries. Weather permitting, the event takes 23 days to complete.

The world-famous road race is organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation and occasionally goes by the nickname: La Grande Boucle.

The race has been in existence since 1903, and has grown in stature and popularity with each passing year. Following its inception, it attracted a predominantly French-field, but this has since been expanded, with cyclists from all countries welcome to participate in the spectacle.

The route changes every single year, and this keeps the contest exciting for both fans and spectators. The contest always snakes through the Pyrenees and the Alps before concluding at the Champs-Elysees in Paris. The closing stages always attract the biggest crowd.

There are a number of well-known teams who compete in the TDF, with each outfit consisting of eight cyclists. The rider with the lowest time total will be given the yellow jersey during the next stage. This has been in place since 1919. There are also a number of alternative classifications throughout the race with separate accolades given to young riders and sprinters.

There are a number of cyclists who have won the Tour de France on five separate occasions with Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx and Spain’s Miguel Indurain all achieving this impressive feat.

The race has been televised around the world in recent years, and attracts a significant audience. It is also an incredibly popular betting event with punters able to enjoy a pre-race wager or an in-play bet on the event. There are now more betting markets than ever before available on the Tour de France, and every single bookmaker will have prices on their site throughout the 23 days.

Some stages will be turned in time trails, and this has been in place since 1934. The first stage is a short time-trial and helps determine which rider will wear the yellow jersey. There are usually two or three of these throughout the TDF, with the penultime stage usually assigned as one.

When and Where?

The Tour de France takes place throughout July, unless it clashes with another major sporting event. It lasts for 23-days and it consists of 21 different stages. Traditionally, it takes place throughout France, but recent stagings have seen part of the contest held elsewhere.

Why is the Tour de France so Popular?

Cycling fans are an extremely dedicated bunch, and they love to follow their favourite riders throughout the year. The TDF is the ultimate test of ability and endurance, and with 23 days of action to enjoy, it’s a great time to be a fan of the sport. The fact that TDF is held throughout July makes it very popular with spectators, and as a result, it attracts a large on-site audience. It also attracts huge names in the sport with household names slugging it out each and every day.

What Betting Opportunities are Available?

Tour de France Winner – This is the simplest of all the TDF markets with punters asked to correctly predict which rider will win the contest. It is an extremely tough ask for any cyclist, and therefore the race can often produce unexpected winners, making the outright market, an enticing prospect for big-price bettors. The gong is awarded to the cyclist who achieves the accumulated lowest time. Previous winners and those riding for the most powerful teams are usually prominent in the betting.

King of the Mountains – This is the title given to the cyclist who is considered to be the best climber in the field. Since 1975, this rider will be seen wearing a polka-dot jersey. Points are based on the difficulty-rating for each mountain climb and these will be assigned to the first riders to reach the top of the mountain. This is a very specialist skill, and the majority of riders in the outright betting are not likely to be towards the top of this market.

Points Classification – This is a secondary competition which is held within the TDF. It has been in existence since 1953 and points are awarded for intermediate sprints and the highest finishes in each stage. This is usually a good way of betting without having to predict the overall winner of the contest.

Young Rider Classification – Another popular ante-post market on the TDF which is separate from the main competition. The leader of this classification will be given the white jersey and is currently open to riders who aged 26 or below. Experienced riders are not allowed to enter this classification. This is usually a much-smaller field and therefore the prices can be fairly prohibitive.

Team Classification – This market will take the individual rider out of the equation and simply focus on the most successful team in the TDF. Good performances by teams will help them gain qualification for next season’s contest. It is usually calculated by adding together the first three riders home for each team. Big names such as Team Sky and Movistar are often prominent in this market.

Stage-by-Stage Betting – Each stage will be priced up individually and these markets are usually available both pre-race and in-play. Some stages are better suited to certain riders and it’s always best to look at the previous performances of each cyclist.

Head to Head Betting – One recent addition to the betting markets has been the head-to-head markets which will pitch together two of the leading riders. This doesn’t involved predicting the overall winner of the race, but you simply require Rider A to beat Rider B in order to secure a return.

Winning Margin – These market are usually priced up and added to the bookies websites within a few days of the race getting started. This involves predicting stage-by-stage how many seconds will be between the winner and the chasing pack. This is another great way of betting, but without having to pick the overall winner.

Bobbys Big Betting Tips for the Tour de France

Weather Can Play its Part – The weather is usually glorious throughout July, but France’s interchangeable climate can often contribute to the outcome of a particular stage. Always check the forecast accordingly, particularly if you’re having a time-specific wager, as it could just sway the outcome out of your favour.

Stamina Required – Always check a rider’s previous results in the TDF, but it’s advised to also ensure that your chosen cyclist has previous form in three-week Grand Tours. It can often be fun to wager on a bigger priced participant, who arrives in decent form, but if they’ve been unable to put it together over a 3-week period before, they might be best avoided.

Well-funded Teams Tend to Prevail – Sadly, money talks in the TDF and a well-funded team will be expected to be prominent in the closing stages. The better backed the team, the more resources they will have for their riders and that will increase their chances of success. With the financial backing, they can often hire performance coaches, psychologists and sometimes former winners to help their members perform at the top of their game.

Where Can I watch the Tour de France in the UK?

ITV have the rights to the Tour de France until 2023 and often show live pictures throughout the day on sister-channel ITV4. They will also show highlights in the evening and cycling fans can enjoy all of the action through the ITV Sports App.

BOBBY’S BEST WEEKEND BETTING EVENTS – 2ND-3RD MARCH

D0G6vxkWoAAQupK

Soccer – Major League Soccer – Orlando City vs New York City

The MLS returns to our screens on Saturday night, and I can’t wait for it to get started! The televised high-profile tie sees Orlando City take on NYCFC in Florida and it’s the first of my big betting events for this weekend.

Orlando are an interesting proposition this season as they look to bounce back from an incredibly poor season. James O’Connor’s men struggled for victories last season, with just eight in total, and they will desperately looking to improve this time around. Their squad looks stronger, and the addition of Nani has certainly given the fans a lift. He will fancy hitting the ground running after a mixed spell back home in Portugal, and he’ll be keen to get off the mark in this opening game.

NYCFC will be without David Villa and they have no players left from their expansion year in the league. It’s a completely new-look side, who will be hoping to continue the momentum they achieved last season. It’s Dome Torrent’s first full-season in charge of the club, and he’ll be desperate to reach the play-offs, and potentially the MLS Cup final. Maxi Moralez tends to be the star of the show and he will once again be key to their chances.

The visitors didn’t fare well on the road last season, and that makes this opening game a very interesting proposition. They were poor away from the Yankee Stadium, and this won’t be easy. It would be entirely possible to underestimate Orlando, but there is a feel-good factor about the club, and the off-season signings have given everyone a lift.

This is an intriguing opening game, and I love betting in-play on the MLS as there are always so many goals, cards and incidents in the division.

Some punters refuse to wager on the opening of a season, but I think this should be a hugely entertaining game for the neutral. It is certainly a great betting in-play prospect, and I can’t wait for it to get started.

UK viewers can enjoy all of the MLS action on Sky Sports between March and October this year.

Soccer – Championship – Ipswich vs Reading

I’m sticking with soccer for my second big betting event this weekend and I’m heading to the Championship. This game is far from the glamorous choice, but it looks an interesting betting heat, as there is so much at stake!

Both of these sides have had a season of struggle, and this game could help decide their future. Ipswich have long been written off as relegation fodder, but they continue to battle, and they aren’t easy to beat at the moment. They’ve now drawn three in a row, and although they are still nine points adrift of their hosts, if they can win here and take their momentum through to the end of the season, survival is not out of the question.

However, if they don’t take anything from this home game, it is pretty much curtains for Paul Lambert’s side.

Reading have improved under Jose Gomez, but they still aren’t out of the woods just yet! The Royals have lost just one of their last six games in the second tier, although too many draws have hindered their progress. They were battered by Sheffield United in their last away game, conceding after just 38 seconds, but they shouldn’t find this trip to Suffolk anywhere near a tricky, and many will be favouring them to take all three points.

This may not be a natural first pick for soccer fans, and it is just one of many 3pm kick offs in the Championship this weekend, but I find it an intriguing betting prospect. The bookies have struggled to price this one up, and it’s not easy to determine the outcome, thus making it a perfect in-play betting match.

Although the draw is a possibility, a point each doesn’t really help either side, and this relegation battle really could go right down to the wire.

EFL fans can catch highlights of this game on Quest TV on Saturday night.

Boxing – Super Welterweight – Erislandy Lara vs Brian Castano

After the excitement of last week’s entertainment in the ring, this weekend’s bouts are far less high-prolife. However, there’s a potential intriguing match-up between Erislandy Lara and Brian Castano in New York on Saturday night and it’s one that I’ll certainly be tuning in for.

We haven’t seen Erislandy Lara since his loss in April 2018, and he’ll be desperate to bounce back from his disappointing loss to Jarrett Hurd. The fiery Cuban will be hoping to KO the Argentine in front of a big audience at the Barclays Center.

Castano is unbeaten so far, and will be keen to defend his 154-pound title on Saturday night. He’s odds-against to do so, but it might be as simple as the bookies suggest. Lara has had a long-time to prepare for this, and there will be a determination about him when he climbs into the ring.

The former world champion will be keen to restore his reputation and claim the super welterweight time in Brooklyn, and this fight could potentially go the distance. The Cuban is very tactical, and he will have carefully studied the movement and reach of his opponent during the build-up to this fight, and that will certainly help his cause.

This is one-to-watch because there is a decent narrative to the fight. Castano is a former junior champion who remains unbeaten, and won’t be easy to KO. Lara is a tactical battler, who has much bigger fights during his career, but is looking to restore his reputation.

It’s going to be a fascinating night in the ring, and the betting markets make very interesting reading. Many punters will be looking to get stuck into the pre-fight markets, and then also return to the odds once the fight has got underway. It should be a cracker on Saturday night, and I can’t wait to see which way it goes.

This fight will be aired live on DAZN on Saturday night

Soccer – Bundesliga – Borussia Monchengladbach vs Bayern Munich

My final big betting event of the weekend is from the Bundesliga, as the title race hots up with Monchengladbach taking on Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund clinched a significant victory on Sunday as they overcame Leverkusen and got back to winning ways. It leaves them three points ahead of Bayern Munich with the pair meeting at the beginning of April. Bayern have the toughest fixture of the two teams this weekend with an unenviable trip to Monchengladbach.

The hosts have fallen away in recent weeks, and their title credentials are waivering following a heavy defeat to Wolfsburg here. They haven’t won in three games, but it doesn’t mean they will be a soft touch in their own back yard. Bayern lost their previous trip to this ground, beaten 2-1, and they were also stuffed at the Allianz by this opponent back in October.

Bayern have certainly begun to recapture their form, but this will be far from straightforward.

However, even with the UCL in the back of their minds, they must ensure they don’t lose any ground in the title race, and they can’t afford to let Dortmund extend the gap once again. Gladbach are 11 points off top-spot, and realistically they’re playing for third, but they won’t take foot off the pedal here. It should be a tremendous spectacle, and a really interesting betting heat.

Niko Kovac’s men are likely to start odds-on for this game, but it will not straightforward, and that makes it a must-watch and must-bet for me.

BT Sport have full coverage of the Bundesliga this season and this game can be watched live on their TV channel and App

Best Bets of the Day – Sunday February 24th 2019

David de Gea

Italy v Ireland
Six Nations – 3.00 pm
ITV

The weekend’s Six Nations rugby wraps up on Sunday in Rome. Italy are likely heading towards another wooden spoon in the championship. They have lost their opening two matches. There have been sporadic period of competitiveness from them though. Italy scored three tries in ten minutes against Scotland in their opening defeat. They battled well at home in their second match against Wales but still couldn’t produce the win.

This won’t be an easy game against Ireland who have won nine of their last ten games against the Azzurri in the Six Nations. Ireland recovered well from their opening defeat against England to put in a powerful and composed performance to win at Murrayfield against Scotland. Ireland have ran up margins of victory of at least 37 points in four of their last five games against Italy in the Six Nations. The leading bookmakers recognise this could be easy for the men in green. The handicap line is set at -29 Ireland at 10/11 odds.

Chelsea v Man City
EFL Cup Final – 4.30 pm
Sky Sports

Chelsea have been having a really rough time of things lately. They are going to struggle to make the top four in the Premier League. They were dumped out of the FA Cup at home by Manchester United. Now their only shot at domestic silverware sees them having to try and beat Manchester City. When the two met recently in the league the Citizens produced a thumping 6-0 win. Not too surprisingly then it is the Citizens who are at 8/13 odds to get the victory in this meeting.

The big question is what can Chelsea change in such a short period of time? How can they adapt and find some way to threaten the Citizens? That is going to be a big challenge for the 4/1 underdogs at Wembley on Sunday afternoon. Both Manchester City and Chelsea have won the tournament five times before. Between them they have won four of the last five editions, City winning three of those. The Citizens will be stepping out to defend their title which they won 3-0 against Arsenal last season. Will the quadruple dream still be alive for them after the close of this one?

Manchester United v Liverpool
Premier League – 2.05 pm
Sky Sports

What a day of football we have on the cards for Sunday. This is a massive showdown in the Premier League. Liverpool are still harbouring ambitions of the title. Manchester United’s new life under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen them play their way into what at one point, looked like unlikely top-four contention. The Red Devils have been on fire in the league recently and they are W7 D4 L1 in the EPL at Old Trafford this season.

They have won four of their last five at home as well (D1) and the confidence is coursing through their ranks at the moment. The Red Devils have scored at least two goals in each of their last five home games now. The over/under goals market should be pretty active here and the top bookmakers have over 3.5 goals at 7/4 odds. Liverpool have dropped points in two of their last three league games (W1 D2) and need to get back on top of their game for this one.

They took a 3-1 home win over the Red Devils earlier this season and need a repeat of that to keep pressure on Man City at the top. Liverpool are W1 D2 L1 in their four away games this season in their matches against the other Big Six. The importance on this game for Liverpool is huge and they will need their defence, which has been fantastic in conceding only eight away goals all season, to be at its best. The leading bookmakers have them at 6/5 favourites to win. But the form of the Red Devils isn’t to be ignored.

Luton v Coventry
League One – 11.45 am

Why not get an early start on the day and get the chance to watch one of the country’s in-from sides. In case you have missed it, Luton are the current leaders in League One. They are currently on a massive twenty-match undefeated streak of form in the league. They have won their last six in a row and thirteen of their last sixteen played. The Hatters have picked up ten wins in their last eleven on home soil (L1) remaining undefeated at Kenilworth Road in league action this season.

Can the visiting Coventry burst Luton’s bubble? With six defeats in their last eight road games (W2), it would be a massive upset. The intriguing thing is that that Luton’s record has to go at some point surely. It’s just waiting for it to happen and catching it at the right time. Coventry are 17/4 underdogs to pull off the upset, with the Hatters 8/13 with leading bookies to get the home win.
