Big Bets Bobby’s Take on the Deontay Wilder vs Dominic Breazeale Fight!

Deontay.Wilder.v.Dominic.Breazeale

With a stacked weekend full of pugilistic action, a multitude of bets stand out over three different shows. With an eye for the best value bets either side of the Atlantic, we see world championships contested in four different weight classes, including two semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series tournament.

Let’s take a closer look at the action:

In a step up to the 168-pound super-middleweight division, Billy Joe Saunders looks to become a two-weight world champion in taking on Shefat Isufi at Stevenage Football Stadium. Having fought just once since his infamous win over David Lemieux in Canada, Saunders has had a plethora of problems to deal with outside the ring, from failed drugs tests to damaging videos emerging online limiting his opportunities inside the ring.

Unable to land the Golovkin or Canelo fights at middleweight, a brief step up to super-middle is expected for the unbeaten southpaw, before a move back down to his natural weight; there is still a chance he can fight for the WBO middleweight strap currently owned by Demetrius Andrade.

Isufi can be found at 16/1 to win this fight, and by looking at his BoxRec it’s clear this will be the biggest test of the 29-year-old’s career to date. One thing to consider is the size of Isufi. He has campaigned at light-heavy as recently as in 2016, and with Saunders making his official debut at 168-pounds it’s likely BJS will have to go the distance. Saunders has picked up just 13 stoppages in his 27 wins and although he’ll be looking to make a statement on Saturday night, Isufi may prove a hard nut to crack.

Billy Joe Saunders to win by Decision or Technical Decision @ 11/4 (BetVictor)

Next we go to Glasgow, where a double-header of WBSS semi-finals feature two of the brightest prospects in the sport. The Japanese Monster Naoya Inoue fights for the second time out of Japan as he looks to unify the bantamweight division against Puerto Rico’s Emmanuel Rodriguez.

Both come into this fight unbeaten, with high KO percentages, however, firmly in most people’s top ten pound-for-pound lists, Inoue is a firm favourite to advance into the finals, scooping the IBF belt to add to his WBO. Inoue is a huge bantamweight and throws devastating combinations with quick hands. His KO of Juan Carlos Payano in the first round of their October bout last year was arguably the standout stoppage of the year.

This is Inoue’s tournament, with another stoppage win coming at a short price.

Naoya Inoue to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification @ 1/3 (BetVictor)

Josh Taylor will steal the show in Glasgow as he looks to become a world champion in just his 15th fight. The Tartan Tornado takes on the game and gutsy Ivan Baranchyk for the IBF super-lightweight title, with the Belarusian reluctantly continuing in the tournament after months of contractual disputes.

Baranchyk does a lot well, but against the long levers of Josh Taylor in front of a passionate home crowd, the away fighter will have limited places to turn to once the going gets tough. Solid work on the inside will favour the Scot, but with Baranchyk happy to go to war, it may go late into the championship rounds.

Josh Taylor to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification @ 2/1 (BetVictor)

The big one Stateside comes from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, as Deontay Wilder puts his WBC heavyweight world title on the line against Dominic Breazeale. Defending his title in a controversial draw against Tyson Fury last December, the “Bronze Bomber” is back to make his mark on the heavyweight division having signed a contract extension with Showtime in the USA.

Breazeale is a come-forward fighter, who is more than happy to take a few licks in order to back his opponent up. If he can gain success in putting Wilder onto his back foot, “Trouble” may find a way to take rounds away from the WBC champ, however, staying out of the way of his wild flurries is another issue. Wilder prides himself on his awkwardness and unpredictability; it’s a strength that is likely to prove fruitful against a standing target like Breazeale.

Wilder has 39 KOs in 41 fights. Breazeale has already tasted a stoppage defeat against Anthony Joshua and is likely to suffer the same fate on Saturday.

Deontay Wilder to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification @ 4/11 (BetVictor)

Bully Boy and Snakebite Set for Premier League Darts Battle in Leeds

Price.and .Gurney

We reach the final week of the regular season, with the top of the league as well as the playoff spots still all to play for in Leeds.

After tempers boiled over between Price and Gurney last week, it’s clear what is at stake in the remaining week of the Premier League. A spot at the O2 on May 23 gives four players a huge chance of glory, with the unpredictable nature of leg play lending itself to well-contested matches.

A point separates Cross and MVG at the top of the standings, with two points separating places three down to sixth; Wade is in the driving season out of all four playoff contenders fighting for two spots, but has a tricky fixture in trying to negate the skill of Voltage.

Albeit out of the running, Smith and Wright can act as spoilers in Leeds. Both Bully Boy and Snakebite are jostling for position to finish seventh, meaning an extra £5,000 in prize money.

There have only been five different winners of the Premier League since it started in 2005; this year looks the most likely of all to move that number to six.

Let’s take a look at Thursday’s action:

Gerwyn Price vs Peter Wright

Price has it in him to take both points from a lacklustre Peter Wright, however, it may not prove enough to grab him a playoff spot. Price has gone three without a win now, but Snakebite has only won twice all season. The pressure is on Price to deliver. Back the Iceman in a nail-biter that could see all 14 legs thrown.

Gerwyn Price to win @ 5/4 (BetVictor)

James Wade vs Rob Cross

The standout fixture of the final week of regular action. A draw will be enough for Wade who is looking to consolidate his third position, however, Cross needs both points to guarantee top spot in the league. Wade has lost once in his last nine Premier League matches; he’s calm enough under pressure to get the point he needs. 7-7 is priced well.

Wade 7-7 Cross @ 7/2 (BetVictor)

Michael van Gerwen vs Mensur Suljovic

Still within a chance of topping the regular league stage, MVG will be looking to put on a show against Gentle. Suljovic will slow the Dutchman down, but not enough to put him off his stride. Suljovic probably needs a point; I doubt he’ll get it. MVG to throw the most 180s at a canter, with a win by 3 clear legs.

Michael van Gerwen 8-4 Mensur Suljovic @ 6/1 (BetVictor)

Daryl Gurney vs Michael Smith

A point may well be enough for Gurney to sneak into the fourth playoff spot, but with his fierce rival Price breathing down his neck, Superchin will want both points. Just two losses in his last ten hold him in good stead coming into Leeds; his momentum should get him over the line against Bully Boy. Gurney to take it 8-5 or 8-4.

Daryl Gurney to win @ 5/4 (BetVictor)

Big Sporting Events: Copa America

DclHxJXkAEqEB

The Copa America is an International Football tournament which is held every four years. Each South American country will get the chance to participate in the knock-out event, with a couple of guest nations also being invited to take part.

It is regarded as the oldest, and most prestigious International Continental football tournament, and was previously known as “The South American Football Championship”. Argentina hosted the very first edition back in 1916, and the tournament has gone from strength-to-strength ever since.

Although it was originally designed to be played every four years, there is a degree of flexibility about the Copa America, and this pattern has been known to differ. This can often depend on other International tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup. CONMEBOL arranged a special tournament in 2016, to mark the competitions centenary.

Again, the number of participants is not exclusive, and previous stagings have seen 16 nations take part, however since 1993, the tournament has been contested between just 12 teams. 2019 will be the final time that the tournament features just a dozen sides, with CONMEBOL announcing that 16 nations will take part from 2020 onwards.

Mexico have been invited to participate in every tournament since 1993, whilst the USA have also been regular competitors in the Copa America. AFC outfit Japan are another country who are regularly asked to compete, and the Blue Samurai will feature once again in the 2019 edition.

Other nations to have received an invite include Haiti, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras and Panama.

The majority of South American sides have won the Copa America on at least one occasion, with only Ecuador and Venezuela still awaiting that inaugural success. Uruguay are the most successful side in this competition, and will be hoping to secure their 16th victory this summer. Chile are the reigning champions going into the 2019 Copa America, having picked up their second title in 2016. Despite not qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, they have enjoyed plenty of recent success in this competition.

There is no set venue for the Copa America, and the tournament will move between countries every four years. Argentina have played hosts on nine occasions, whilst the 46th edition will be staged by Brazil in the summer of 2019. It will be competed at six different venues, many of which were used during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Venezuela were the last nation given the opportunity to host the tournament in 2007. Every South American country has now staged the Copa America at least once.

The teams are initially drawn in three groups of four, with the top two going through to the quarter-finals. The 2019 final will be held on July 7th in Rio de Janeiro.

Each tournament is also given its own logo, and will have a mascot to represent it. This tradition began in 1987.

When and Where?

Currently, the Copa America is held approximately every four years. However, CONMEBOL announced that from 2020 onwards, it would be moved to coincide with the European Championships.

The competition is hosted a different country, and this is usually operated on an alphabetical rotation system. Brazil weren’t able to host the 2015 edition so soon after the FIFA World Cup, so their turn was skipped, and moved to 2019.

Why is the Copa America so Popular?

Quite simply, it is an International football tournament, and as a result, it will always attract headlines.

It is also generally (pre-2020) held in the summer of a non-World Cup year, and this always helps attract the interest of those football fans who are struggling to cope without their weekly sporting fix.

It is also a chance to see how the South American powerhouses are shaping up. The majority of nations, particularly Brazil and Argentina will be able to showcase some of Europe’s top players, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez having featured in recent years.

It is also a reasonably short tournament with just 12 teams taking part, and that allows games to be well-spread out. This adds to the appeal.

The Copa America is also a very popular betting event as there is no regular competitive European football to distract punters.

What Betting Opportunities Are Available?

Quite a few. Punters are able to bet on the winning nation months in advance, and the majority of matches are priced up four weeks before the tournament gets underway.

There will be plenty of markets available once the draw has been made, and squads have been announced. Once each country has declared their squads, goalscorer markets will begin to form.

Key Betting Markets

Outright Winner – This is the most popular market, and is the most-talked about option. The titles have been shared around in recent years, although Chile have won each of the last two editions. Punters must decide which team will come out on top. Your chosen team must be victorious in the final, and lift the trophy in order to receive a pay-out.

Name the Finalists – An opportunity to garner some bigger odds with this market. There are just 12 teams taking part in the tournament, and this market allows bettors to decide which two nations will make it to the showpiece event.

To Reach the Final/Semi-Final – Another market in which punters do not need to pick the eventual winner of the competition. This is an opportunity to pick a side who you may consider to be underrated by the market. Any side who are drawn in a relatively winnable group may be a decent option in this field. This market will generally be available around seven days before the tournament gets underway.

Golden Boot – The Copa America always attracts a decent calibre of player, and there is plenty of talent to choose from in this field. This is a case of predicting which player will score the highest number of goals throughout the tournament. With maxium of six matches for each team, the top goalscorer can sometimes receive the Golden Boot for netting just four or five times.

Group Winners – The groups are often drawn months in advance, and it gives punters a decent opportunity to analyse each sides chances of coming out on top. With just three group games in the Copa America, a sluggish start can blow any chance of finishing on top. Punters must correctly predict which side finishing at the summit of their respective section.

Match Winner (1X2) – Simply a case of predicting which side will win in each of the individual matches at the tournament.

Under/Over – Each match will have numerous markets priced up by the bookies. One of the most popular is predicting how many goals will be scored in each game. The line is always set at Under/Over 2.5 Goals, although different variations are available.

Anytime Goalscorer – Once the squads are announced, anytime goalscorer markets will be priced up. This is simply a case of predicting which player will find the back of the net during the 90 minutes. Other options include: First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, To Score 2 or More.

Handicaps – Although it is a hugely competitive event, there are still one or two one-sided contests, particularly in the group stage. Handicap betting is the ideal opportunity to get involved in these type of fixtures. This allows punters to give the favourites, a handicap to overcome (e.g -1), and their chosen side must win by two clear goals in order to receive a pay-out.

Bobby’s Big Betting Tips for the Copa America

Fatigue Can Play a Part – By the time the players get on a plane to compete in the Copa America, it has already been a long-hard season for the majority of those who play regularly in Europe. Players who have competed domestically, and in the Champions League/Europa League finals can often suffer from exhaustion by early-June, and it is always advised to be cautious when backing them. Their heart may not be in it, and it may have a detrimental effect on the team. MLS players are usually around 3 months into their season by the time this tournament rolls around, with many of them at peak fitness.

Think Outside of the Box for Goalscorers – The Copa America is a hugely competitive affair, and it is often the competition where a number of lower-profile players make a name for themselves. Eduardo Vargas ended the tournament as the top goalscorer in 2016, whilst Paolo Guerrero of Peru is always a threat, and was 2011’s top scorer. The higher profile players sometimes fail to hit the same heights in this event.

Team Spirit/Happy Camp Can Have a Major Impact – South American coaches do have the tendency to be a little fiery, and many of them will be in their roles for short periods of time (Jose Pekerman excluded). This can often result in a short-term change of fortunes, and it is always best to do your research beforehand. Are all the players on board with the new coaches tactics? Avoid any side where there has been a high-profile falling out between some of the players and/or the coaching staff.

Don’t Underestimate Those Sides Who Missed Out on the World Cup – Chile have shown in recent years that the disappointment of not featuring at the FIFA World Cup hasn’t stopped them succeeding here. The majority of punters will gravitate towards the bigger names, but Argentina haven’t won since 1993, whilst Brazil’s last victory came in 2007.

UK viewers can enjoy the Copa America live on Premier Sports this summer. Every single game will be broadcast on the channel.

Man City v Watford FA Cup Final 2019 Preview

FA Cup

Manchester City v Watford
FA Cup Final – 5.00 pm Kick Off
BT Sport

The FA Cup Final is one of the highlights of the football calendar. It is a chance to pick up one of the most treasured pieces of English history. This is the FA Cup, a tournament which is steeped in heritage having been competed for for the first time back in 1872. It is still going strong and is highly coveted to this day.

City seek the domestic treble

Manchester City have the chance at a domestic treble in their sights. They have already collected the EFL Cup title and then nabbed the Premier League title on a dramatic final day of the season. So now they have to shift mode as they head back to Wembley. They go as the 1/5 odds-on favourites with top bookmakers, to beat Watford in the 2019 FA Cup Final.

The Citizens have won the FA Cup five times before in their history, their most recent title coming back in 2011. So it has been a while since they got their hands on the famous trophy. They did put in an appearance back in the 2013 final but they suffered a loss there as they were upset by Wigan.

That was a huge upset, one of the biggest in an FA Cup Final for a long time. But now City, with their confidence sky high and players in form, the leading bookmakers have them as short as 5/6 odds to win to nil in the final itself. That’s strong odds for them to avoid such an upset again.

Watford seek first ever FA Cup title

Watford have been to just one previous FA Cup final. That was in 1984 when they went up against Everton. The Hornets, who had Graham Taylor as the manager on the day and had a side that featured John Barnes, were 2-0 losers. So this is a rare treat for their fans. There is the bigger prize on offer as well and that is a place in Europe for the Hornets next season.

If Watford manage to pull off the upset on the day from a position of 10/1 underdogs with top bookmakers, then they will be heading to the group stage of the Europa League. There will be no consolation prize for them if they walk away from Wembley empty-handed on Saturday evening. So it is that important for them. Winning would be a great end to this solid season that they have had under Javi Gracia.

City’s straight road to the final

Manchester City were relatively untroubled (as expected) through their FA Cup campaign, at least through the early stages. They posted a 7-0 win over Rotherham and then a 5-0 victory over Burnley in the third and fourth rounds respectively. Then they produced a 4-1 success out at Newport before a meeting with Championship side Swansea in the quarterfinals.

Manchester City had to show a bit of resolve there, too. The Swans produced a fantastic challenge on the day, the Welsh club racing out to a 2-0 lead inside the first 30 minutes. However, Sergio Aguero completed the comeback for City two minutes from time for a 3-2 victory. That put them through to the semi-final against Brighton. The Seagulls simply set their stall out to defend and do little else at Wembley. It wasn’t a classic and a goal from Gabriel Jesus in the fourth minute settled the fixture in City’s favour.

Watford’s epic comeback lands Final berth

Watford’s road to the FA Cup Final got a little dramatic towards the end as well. They opened in a really confident fashion, posting three straight away wins. Their first was a 2-0 success at Woking before making the trip to fellow Premier League side Newcastle in the fourth round, the Hornets winning again by a 2-0 scoreline. They then came through a tricky tie at Loftus Road with a 1-0 win against QPR.

It was Crystal Palace who they faced in the quarterfinals, not an easy game at all. But the Hornets had home advantage at Vicarage Road and made the most of it with a 2-1 success in a tight game. That was despite conceding a lot of possession to their opponents. Then came their epic semi-final against Wolves. Watford looked down and out at Wembley, trailing 2-0 with just over ten minutes on the clock. But then they mounted a dramatic comeback from out of nothing, going on to win the tie in extra time by a 3-2 scoreline.

Man City v Watford Head To Head

In this season’s Premier League meetings Manchester City claimed a win in both games against Watford. Pep Guardiola’s men took a 2-1 win at Vicarage Road in early December, before running out 3-1 winners back at home against them in early March. That is a 10 match winning streak that City are on against Watford in all competitions.

The Citizens scored at least two goals in all ten of those victories. They have met for six previous FA Cup matches and the Citizens are ahead there too with a W3 D2 L1 record. This will be their first meeting in the competition since the fourth round in the 2013/14 season when the Citizens collected a 4-2 home success, Sergio Aguero netting a hattrick on the day.

Summary

It’s remarkable just how big the FA Cup is. A total of 734 teams have fallen by the wayside in this season’s competition to leave just Manchester City and Watford standing. It’s been a long haul since the tournament started back in early August. Without question, it will be Manchester City who will kick off as favourites. But this is the FA Cup and that old magic still exist and Man City only have to look back to that 2013 defeat to have a clear reminder of that.

Even though the domestic football is winding down, there is still plenty of sport around to get stuck into, so check out Bobby’s Big Weekend Bets for more!

BOBBY’S BEST WEEKEND BETTING EVENTS – 17TH-18TH MAY

DEOcxXoAEk ZK

Soccer – French Ligue 1 – St.Etienne vs Nice

With many leagues coming to a conclusion, European football betting opportunities are lessening, but there is still plenty to be decided in Ligue 1. The first of my big betting events this weekend comes from Stade Geoffroy-Guichard as St.Etienne aim to book their place in Europe next season as they take on Nice.

With two games left to play, Les Verts simply must win this fixture if they wish to hold onto fourth position. With Lyon’s victory on Sunday, third spot is looking an unlikely proposition for Sainte, but they need three points here to prevent recent conquerers Montpellier from leapfrogging them.

With an away trip to Angers next weekend, they will be feeling fairly confident of securing fourth position, but they can’t afford to take anything for granted.

This tie is very interesting because St.Etienne are going to go off at odds-on favourites, and they are extremely short in the betting. However, Nice are not an easy side to play against, and they sit just nine points behind their opponents. This is no gimme.

Les Aiglons have lost just one of their last eight Ligue 1 matches, and Patrick Vieira’s side will be typically well-organised and competitive throughout. The previous two fixtures at this ground have ended 1-0 and 0-1, so this is unlikely to be a walk-in-the-park for the hosts.

Nice are huge underdogs here, and although there is slightly less at stake here, they are not going to go down easily, and their superb defensive record will make it tough for Sainte.

The men from the Cote D’Azur have recently picked up a point at the Parc des Princes, and although they aren’t frequent winners on their travels, they have only lost six times away from home.

There were some tired looking performances from St.Etienne last weekend against Montpellier, and Remy Cabella will be suspended for this game after getting sent off in the second half of that clash.

It’s been a long old season for both clubs, and I think this match could be closer than the odds suggest. It should be a suitably competitive clash, and I think it’s a really interesting and intriguing betting event.

St.Etienne can still pip Lyon to the Champions League qualifier spot, but it’s going to take an almight effort from Les Verts, and although there is plenty of incentive to pick up three points here, they are likely to be in for a tough evening against Vieira’s men.

French football fans in the UK can enjoy all of the action from Ligue 1 on BT Sport, and there will be highlights of every single crucial game in the top flight this weekend.

Boxing – WBC Heavyweight Title Fight – Deontay Wilder vs Dominic Breazeale

There’s some top-class boxing taking place this weekend with Deontay Wilder making his ninth defence of his WBC Heavyweight title when he takes on Dominic Breazeale. The 33-year old will be determined to get back to winning ways here, and it’s going to be fascinating to see how he approaches this New York-based bout. It’s the second of my big betting events this weekend.

Boxing fans worldwide have been desperately hoping that Wilder and Joshua would cross paths in 2019, but that won’t be happening. However, this match-up is a decent one with Breazeale in good form coming into this clash.

The American, who competed in the 2012 Olympics has a very impressive record, and is unbeaten in twenty of his 21 professional fights, with Anthony Joshua his only conquerer thus far. He’s also overseen 18 KOs in that time, and he shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Deontay Wilder needs no introduction, and his record is close to imperious, but he could be potentially vulnerable here. He needs to bounce back, and needs to make a statement in this contest. He’s been working hard since his defeat to Fury, and this looks like the perfect opportunity.

Breazeale has come out fighting this week, suggesting that Wilder may have to retire following their meeting this weekend’s fight in Brooklyn. It would certainly be another huge blow to Wilder’s chances of getting back on top, and at 33-years old, he may consider taking a step back from the sport.

However, most pundits believe that Wilder will triumph, and retain his heavyweight title here. He’s had much easier match-ups, and Breazeale will be a tough proposition, but Wilder has more experience, and could be too explosive. He’s the overwhelming favourite in the betting, and many fans will be backing him to get the job done early, but it is unlikely to be that straightforward.

There has been plenty of talk about this fight, and the American duo have had plenty to say about one anothers antics in the past. There is plenty riding on this one, and it should be a cracking watch. It’s a late one for UK viewers, but it will definitely be worth staying up for!

UK Viewers can enjoy all of the action from Brooklyn on Sky Sports on Saturday Night/Sunday Morning

Soccer – Bundesliga – Borussia Monchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund

This is my last opportunity to talk about the Bundesliga title race this season, as the German top flight comes to a suitably exciting conclusion. Amazingly, despite struggling for form recently, Dortmund are still in with a chance of finishing as champions, and their game against Monchengladbach is the third of my big betting events.

Both sides have already booked their place in Europe next season, but there is silverware at stake, and it’s going right down to the wire!

First of all, both sides must be commended for their efforts this campaign, with just eight defeats between them, and just two points between them going into the final day.

Bayern are in the driving seat, and the reigning champs will be feeling confident ahead of their home tie against Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the visitors are a decent side, and Dortmund will be hoping that Adi Hutter’s men can do them a huge favour. If Bayern win, they cannot be caught, but there will be some nervous spectators inside the Allianz this weekend.

Dortmund have the tougher task, and the majority of neutrals will be keeping their fingers crossed for Lucien Favre’s men. The Black and Yellows have been a real pleasure to watch this season, and they have a number of hugely talented players. Their attacking approach to games has been extremely refreshing, and it bodes well ahead of next season.

Their late goal against Dusseldorf was celebrated with plenty of gusto, and it kept their dream alive. They’ve conceded plenty of sloppy goals away from home this season, but they’ve lost just three times, and the odds suggest that they will win this tie.

Gladbach are still fighting for European football, and although they are largely assured of a top six position, a series of results could see them drop out. They aren’t just here to make up the numbers, and that should make the tie very entertaining.

BT Sport will have full coverage of the final day of the Bundesliga season this weekend for UK viewers

Aussie Rules – AFL – Brisbane Lions vs Adelaide Crows

There is very little between this pair at the top of the AFL Ladder, and this match-up will be very interesting. The Lions vs The Crows is the fourth of my big betting events for this weekend.

The Crows came through a tough test at the weekend, withstanding some late pressure from Port Adelaide Power to secure their fourth consecutive win. They are heading in the right direction, and they will be full of confidence going into this next assignment. The Crows have a 5-3 record, and remain undefeated since week 4. Strangely, it was the underperforming Kangaroos, who were the last side to beat them.

This will be far from straightforward as the Lions are in decent form, and have an identical 5-3 record. The main difference is that the Brisbane side picked up the majority of their victories at the beginning of the season, and were one of the season’s early pacesetters.

The Lions are a high-scoring side, and they’ve been involved in some very entertaining games lately. They scored 111 points against the Suns, and although they come off the back of a defeat, they will be feeling confident about bouncing back here.

The Crows do have a significant psychological advantage coming into this tie, as they have won the last eight meetings between these two sides, and they’ll be aiming to make it nine-in-a-row.

UK AFL Fans can see highlights and coverage of the key games on BT Sport this weekend.

Best Bets of the Day – Sunday, May 12th 2019

Rangers v Celtic
Scottish Premiership – 12.00 noon
Sky Sports

It is the final round of action from the Scottish Premiership and there is an Old Firm derby to sign off with. Perhaps the only thing missing from this clash really is that there is nothing at stake for either of them. Celtic have wrapped up yet another league title by some distance. But they are not likely to ease off in intensity, not with this trip to Ibrox which they are 11/8 favourites to win. Celtic are undefeated in 16 league games now, not conceding in any of their last five.

Rangers are locked into second place in the table, but Steven Gerrard’s men have hit a purple patch of form. They are on a five-match winning streak at the moment on the domestic front. The Gers did also collect a home win over Celtic earlier this season (a 1-0 success), either side of one-goal margin away losses at Celtic Park. So this could be another tight battle between the two. Even though a win does nothing for Rangers, it will at least see them finish on a high note.

Brighton v Man City
Premier League – 3.00 pm
Sky Sports

The title race in the Premier League has gone down to the final day of the season. Manchester City breathed a huge sigh of relief in midweek. A stunning strike from captain Vincent Kompany saw them claim a 1-0 home win over Leicester. That left the Citizens leading the table by one point going into this final round of matches. That was Man City’s 13th straight Premier League win and they are 1/6 odds on with top bookmakers to win at the Amex on Sunday. A win and City retain the title.

Brighton managed to preserve their top-flight status and now have nothing to play for. However, last weekend they showed up at Arsenal and picked up a 1-1 draw which not many would have seen coming. Brighton have taken just one point from their last four home games in the EPL. During the course of the regular season, they went W1 D1 L3 at home against the rest of the Big Six. Can they possibly dig out something special, as they are playing with no pressure, to prevent Man City’s title defence? Brighton area 14/1 underdogs.

Liverpool v Wolves
Premier League – 3.00 pm
Sky Sports

Liverpool had an epic night on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League, posting a 4-0 home win over Barcelona to win their semi-final tie 4-3 on aggregate. That was without some of their star power as well, like Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino. Liverpool have to win this game and hope that Man City fail to collect a victory out at Brighton on Sunday. That is the only way that Liverpool finally get their hands on the Premier League title. Is there one final twist left in what has been an epic battle?

Liverpool are naturally strong favourite at home to win this one. They are 1/3 odds-on to pick up three points. This isn’t the easiest of games for them though as they facing a Wolves team who are in form. They are on a three-match winning streak at the moment and in their five away games against the other Big Six teams this season, Wolves are W1 D3 L1. So they have performed very well in their biggest road challenges this season. Wolves have nothing to play for, they are locked in for a seventh-place finish and are 13/2 underdogs to ruin Liverpool’s title dreams by winning at Anfield.

Spanish Grand Prix
F1 – 2:05 pm

Lewis Hamilton will aim to become the first man since Michael Schumacher back in the early 2000’s, to win the Spanish Grand Prix three times in a row. Schumacher actually got four in a row between 2001 and 2004. Anyway, it has been all Mercedes in the 2019 F1 season. All four races so far have produced a Mercedes 1-2 finish. Hamilton and his teammate Valtteri Bottas have each earned two wins each.

It was Bottas who got a win in the most recent race, which was out in Azerbaijan. So will it be Hamilton who gets back to the top of the podium, given his recent history at the race? Hamilton is the 11/8 favourite with leading bookmakers to get the win, with Bottas behind at 5/2.

The challenge of Ferrari has yet to emerge this season but they are bringing engine upgrades to the table for this one. They are desperate. They weren’t supposed to be ready until a couple of races down the line. Can their new star, Charles Leclerc break the dominance of Mercedes? The Frenchman is 9/2 for the win in Spain.

Aston Villa

Leinster v Saracens
European Champions Cup – 5.00 pm
Channel 4

This could easily be one of the sporting highlights of the weekend, as it sees the European Champions Cup on the line. Saracens are the ones who are narrow favourites with leading bookmakers to get the victory. The English side are at 8/11 for success. Saracens had won back to back European titles before being stopped in their tracks in the quarterfinals of last season’s competition by, yes, Leinster.

So Saracens are back for another bite of the cherry. They have lost all three previous European Champions Cup fixtures against Leinster, so they have to shake that off. Saracens have been perfect, winning all games played in this season’s competition. With news that Billy Vunipola is fit enough to play, that is a massive boost to them. This Final is being played at St James’ Park in Newcastle.

Leinster have suffered a defeat in this season’s competition. They lost a tight pool stage game out at Toulouse. But other than that they have again announced their European pedigree with some aplomb. They are even money underdogs with leading bookmakers to win this final. But they handled themselves so superbly in the knockout stages of the competition, notably in a big showdown against Ulster when they had to hold their nerve. They are the reigning European Champions and aren’t going to let go of that title easily.

Aston Villa v West Brom
Championship Play-Off – 12.00 noon
Sky Sports

A fantastic Midlands derby for the first leg of this Championship Play Off Semi Final. Because it is a derby that just adds a level of extra spice to proceedings. Both are running in some pretty handy form as well, so there is not likely going to be too much between them. However, it is the Villains who will be going into the match as 10/11 favourites with top bookmakers. That’s because of home soil advantage and form.

Aston Villa were on a five-match winning streak at home in the league before losing against Champions Norwich at Villa Park on the final day of the season. Overall during the course of the regular season, Villa lost just four home games and they averaged over two goals per game. They did, however, only go W1 L3 at home against the four teams who finished above them in the table. So will that open the door for the Baggies who are 3/1 underdogs for this first leg?

It is not as if West Brom are in bad form at all, quite the contrary. They have won three of their last five games played (D1 L1) and were four unbeaten before going down at Derby on the final weekend of the season. West Brom claimed a win in three of their four away games in the Championship against sides who finished in the top five alongside them. That’s a pretty strong record by anyone’s standards. There is a hint that this could be a high scoring game, all but two of West Brom’s last eight league games have gone over 2.5 goals.

Derby v Leeds
Championship Play-Off – 5.00 pm
Sky Sports

The high-pressure arena of the Championship play-offs have arrived now. There should be a cracker of a match at Pride Park here as Derby go up against Leeds. Derby carried some fantastic momentum with them to the end of the season, holding their nerve and producing the necessary quality to squeeze into the top six. A win on the final day of the season against West Brom (who had already qualified for the playoffs) secured Derby’s play-off place this season.

The Rams are currently on a six-match unbeaten streak of form, winning each of their last three. Derby are on a four-match winning streak at home at the moment and are undefeated on seven on home soil. So somewhat surprisingly, Derby are the 11/5 underdogs on home soil here. That may make them one of the best bets of the day for punters to back. Of the two sides in this semi-final, they are the ones with the current form behind them.

Leeds could not handle the pressure at the end of the season and a terrible finish saw them relinquish their shot at automatic promotion. For so long this season they looked as if they were going to push until the very finish line to get themselves back up to the top flight by securing a top-two finish. It didn’t happen as they collapsed to take just one point from their final four games to end up third. Away from home, it has been a W1 L3 record in their last four. But then Leeds, who are 5/4 to win this fixture did win both league meetings against the Rams this season.
